Hello friends, I was at my local hardware store on the weekend, and I happened to stop in the paint aisle where I was confronted with a wall of colour swatches. There were literally hundreds of colour combinations to choose from, and I stood there for the longest time swimming in a sea of sample paint strips.
The experience made me think about more advanced vocabulary to describe colour combinations. When we think about colours, the names of primary and secondary colours come to mind quite easily (red, yellow, blue, green, orange and purple). But, what word in the English language can be used to describe pinkish-orange? Is there a word for greyish-brown? What about a word for yellowy-brown or purplish-red?
Find the answers to these questions by playing a memory game.
Your task is to find a pair of identical colours. Begin by clicking on a mystery colour card. Only two colour cards can be overturned at a time. Once you find a match, the name of the colour will appear on the screen, as well as the length of time that it took to find the match. Play the game as many times as you like. The more you play, the faster you’ll get and the more you’ll interact with the vocabulary. Click here to get started. Happy gaming and happy learning!
Enjoyed reading through this, very good stuff, thankyou .
